The Erie Canal ends at the Hudson River at Waterford, NY. It is a right turn onto the river. The canal is 342 miles from Tonawanda, where you enter the canal from the Niagara River(from Lake Erie) to Troy Lock on the Hudson. You can travel 6 mph in the dug section and 10 mph in the river sections.Locks do not operate at night. There are 35 locks. 50 miles a day is about the best you can do.
